MASA Inc SOLAR LIGHTS OF HOPE AT SITIO MAGATA, MANGGAHAN, TANAY RIZAL

DUMAGAT REMONTADOS OF MAGATA TRIBE, SITIO MAGATA, MANGGAHAN,TANAY, RIZAL

The Dumagat Remontados of Magata Tribe are descendants of lowlanders that opted to live in the mountains. They prefer to be called "taga-bundok"(from the mountains) or "magkakaingin". They are mixed-blooded group of people( Negrito and lowland Filipinos). They used to be hunters before they switched to kaingin.  They have their own rich culture and traditions, friendly and hospitable.

They vote their chieftain through tumpukan(one who has the most number of stones). They are headed now by a lady Chieftain.

Sitio Magata is located in the mountains of Tanay. It is blessed with rich forest and clear river and falls. But because of their location, they still live in darkness. They have to spend 15 pesos of gas every night for their gas lamps to help their students finish their study nights and school assignments. Students have to cross the river to reach their school and come back home with dark roads and trails. MASA Inc distributed solar lamps donated by different sponsors.

SITIO MAGATA  is now an adopted community of MASA Inc. They are now handcrafting the native solar lamps that MASA Inc distributes to different IP communities all over the Philippines. These are now their source of livelihood and some children were paired with some sponsors who are willing to fund their education and other school needs. MASA Inc's SOLAR LIGHTS OF HOPE campaign not just aim to give or light up villages but hope to inspire each child to excel in their school and succeed in their lives.

MASA INC SOLAR YOUTH ADVOCATES

Laksmi Mica is one of our very active youth volunteer assistant trainer
The heart of a volunteer is not measured is size, but by the depth in commitment to make a difference in the lives of others - DeAnn Hollis
Angel Saquibal is our 10 year old volunteer and assistant youth trainer
In MASA Inc, volunteers come from different sectors of our society, you can be a professional, a simple citizen with a heart, a retiree, a senior citizen or youth who all work for a cause, for the advocacy and are happy doing it. You don't have to be rich or professional, if you have a heart and care, your small act of kindness can make a huge difference and impact in someone else's lives.

And we have as young as 10 year old kids like Angel Saquibal who at her early age are already assisting in training workshops and outreach to remote IP villages. These youth are more energetic and most eager in volunteering.
at Winnie Monsod's Bawal ang Pasaway interview
Assembling a solar lamp doesn't have any age requirement. It's the willingness to learn and be able to share your time for a good cause. Some thought that these youth couldn't solder yet the components of a circuit, but they had proven themselves wrong. We had even produced the youngest TESDA certified EPAS NCII in the whole Philippines. She had done some recycling innovations and had taught these to some youth in her school for their recycling projects using the solar circuit she learned from MASA Inc. Margareth Saquibal was even featured in Getty images, GMA 7 and CNN Philippines when she assisted House Speaker Belmonte and the congressmen and women in the House of Representatives.

MASA Inc

MASA INC
(MAGKASAMANG ADHIKAING SOLAR ASSOCIATION, INC)

MASA Inc or Magkasamang Adhikaing Solar Association,Inc is a non- profit organization whose mission is to light up communities in remote and far flung areas not reached by the local electric provider specially the IP communities living in mountains, forests and remote areas of the Philippines.

MASA INC VOLUNTEERS AND TRAINERS
MASA INC was first created as a facebook group last May 27, 2015 to give free seminars, workshops and training about solar power set ups, innovations and other solar information. Soon enough Ma.Teresita Santillan, the founder-president realized that the group could do more than just giving free workshops and seminars by helping the IP communities have access to solar lighting. Giving them these solar lamps not only help them have lights at night, reduce crime rate in their community but also inspire each child/student to study at night and hopefully produce teachers, engineers, architects and IT experts. With this in mind and heart, she decided to legally register the group at SEC last July 9, 2015.

Since its creation, Masa Inc had already conducted numerous free workshops, seminars, training and had produced 29 Tesda certified EPAS NCII technicians with the 13yrs old as the youngest EPAS NCII holder in the entire Philippines. MASA Inc had also produced the first Tesda certified NCII Solar PV installer Luzon where the only certified NCII Solar PV installer and trainer holder that time was from ARRM(Mindanao)

It had received awards(Heroes Award given by Trojan batteries Singapore), plaques and certificates of appreciation and media acknowledgements and interviews.

MASA Inc circuit designed and innovated by its best technicians had gone to different countries to replace the million dollar global circuit problem of one of the NGOs here with their solar lamps and solar streetlights.

MASA Inc had been to many remote and hard to reach IP communities of the Philippines giving solar lamps most of the time struggling and braving to trek rugged terrains, crossed rivers and streams, rode bumpy rough roads on sunny or rainy days just to be able to give these lamps donated and assembled by different  CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility department of companies and business groups), private companies and institutions, private individuals and other donors and sponsors.

climbed slippery treks going up to the village
It's solar lamps had gone to many upgrades since it was introduced. From the recycled pet bottles, condiment keepers, student's drinking containers to antique gas lamps and now to its world class NATIVE SOLAR LAMPS with a pending patent at IPO.
The New MASA Inc NATIVE SOLAR LAMP
MASA Inc's NATIVE SOLAR LAMP is made of indigenous materials sourced from the deepest and highest mountains of Tanay Rizal. These were handcrafted by the Dumagat Remontados of Magata Tribe in Tanay. Masa inc not only helped them have their own solar lamps but also give them extra source of income by handcrafting these lamp case. The sponsors/donor or CSRs assemble the circuit and lamp in a form of a workshop. The assembled lamp are then donated to other IP community. Sponsors can visit the place and experience the hospitality of the Dumagats, explore the beauty and unexploited nature of Tanay and experience how to handcraft the lamp if they want to.

There are still thousands of IP communities that live in darkness and have no access to electricity. Please join and support our advocacy of helping light up this villages and give these children hope and inspiration to succeed in their vocation and make us instruments of producing engineers, architects, teachers or IT experts from among them.

ANG ILAW NG MASA

NATIVE SOLAR LAMP

MASA Inc designed a Native solar lamp using indigenous materials, recycled bottle and MASA Inc circuit. Among the IP Communities that MASA Inc had visited, we felt the need to help the Dumagat Remontados of MAGATA Tribe to have another or extra source of income by teaching them to make these native solar lamps out the indigenous materials found in their community. Rattan, coconut shell and nito fern are abundant in the area and in the deep forest of Tanay.

MASA Inc circuit is used to make the solar lighting work. These circuits are usually assembled in sponsored workshops by CSR's, schools and universities, cooperatives, government and private institutions. After assembly of the circuit, these are then connected to other parts in the lamp and the finished native solar lamp is donated to another IP community.

In this way, we had helped an IP community get extra source of livelihood, let CSR's and other institutions have awareness regarding renewable energy, share their extra resources to communities in need, help light up other IP communities and inspire and motivate every child or student who received the solar lamp to do their best in school since they have now their source of light at night to help light up their study nights. Who knows that with these lamps, we could inspire would be engineers, teachers, architects, IT experts and a mayor or president? Besides helping these IP communities have continuous source of light, we had helped them save 15 or more pesos a day for their gas consumption for a bottle of gas lamp. Gas lamps are hazardous to health and the environment.

There are still thousands of IP communities that lives in darkness and in need of our help. We would like to appeal to your kind hearts to support these advocacy through donations or sponsorship. You may contact us at Tel: (632)8873273 or CP: (632)9173870895. You may email us also at masa.inc@yahoo.com or message us on our FB page.

DONATE A SOLAR LAMP INSPIRE A CHILD fund raising campaign is a continuous campaign for the IP communities.

Thank you sir Rolly Magpayo for this beautiful video shoot.

MASA Inc SOLAR ADVOCATES

Who is MASA Inc.

MASA Inc is a group of volunteers from all walks of life. Volunteers as young as 10 years old to a very strong and smart 76 years old happily sharing their precious time to help give these lights of hope to our IP communities in need. Without them, MASA inc wouldn't be this successful in so short a time.

We climbed mountains, walked long rough and rugged paths and terrain, battled the heat of the sun or the rain, struggled making a step on very sticky mud or slippery paths going up the site of the village. We had crossed rivers and streams battling the cold and strong water current, traveled the most bumpy and rugged roads still with all smiles and a happy heart.

We climb mountains, cross rivers, and falls to source out indigenous materials for the lamp.

We slept on rugged and rocky floor of the tents that stood just few steps the river banks, bathed in rivers and ate with our bare hands together like one big happy family, a happy friendship that grew deep in our hearts from working together for the good of the community and our environment with thoughts that one day these solar lamps we share will produce better citizens, professionals, teachers, architects, engineers, IT experts or who knows a mayor or a president someday?

We had always been confident and sure our travel is safe and will always be on time with our Logistics Team leader, Lito Pastor on the wheels.

The life and heart of the solar native lamp is in the circuit. It had been innovated many times for upgrades and better performance by no other than the best Technical Team leader of the group, Myk Mica.

Sponsors and donors played the most important role in MASA Inc. It is not that easy to scout for one since we are not yet that famous or as other would say we are not yet branded like big NGOs or foundations. But we are not for branding, our aim is to help in any way we could, donations big and small when put together would already put a hope to any IP community. And who does better and more able in that field but no other than our Social and Marketing Team leader, Jeff Samuel Daquilanea.

Sir Jeff Samuel Daquilanea

In the solar world dominated by mostly men, we need woman shakers and movers to empower women and prove to all that women too can be solar advocates and engineers. We are glad to have our Women Empowerment Team Leader Ria San Gabriel.

And who could make the best MASA Inc videos but none other than Rolly Magpayo, a known professional photographer, videographer, editor and artist

Finances are not yet that easy flowing for MASA Inc. A lot of times funds would come from our own pockets to push through a project. We are really thankful and owe a lot of gratitude to Maria Dolores Fontanilla for helping us with finances.

Experiences from the past acquaintances made MASA Inc just even stronger and learned. With the help of our Sales Marketing Team leader Rob Tan, he helped and guided us with patenting our native solar lamp.
