DUMAGAT REMONTADOS OF MAGATA TRIBE, SITIO MAGATA, MANGGAHAN,TANAY, RIZAL
The Dumagat Remontados of Magata Tribe are descendants of lowlanders that opted to live in the mountains. They prefer to be called "taga-bundok"(from the mountains) or "magkakaingin". They are mixed-blooded group of people( Negrito and lowland Filipinos). They used to be hunters before they switched to kaingin. They have their own rich culture and traditions, friendly and hospitable.
They vote their chieftain through tumpukan(one who has the most number of stones). They are headed now by a lady Chieftain.
Sitio Magata is located in the mountains of Tanay. It is blessed with rich forest and clear river and falls. But because of their location, they still live in darkness. They have to spend 15 pesos of gas every night for their gas lamps to help their students finish their study nights and school assignments. Students have to cross the river to reach their school and come back home with dark roads and trails. MASA Inc distributed solar lamps donated by different sponsors.
SITIO MAGATA is now an adopted community of MASA Inc. They are now handcrafting the native solar lamps that MASA Inc distributes to different IP communities all over the Philippines. These are now their source of livelihood and some children were paired with some sponsors who are willing to fund their education and other school needs. MASA Inc's SOLAR LIGHTS OF HOPE campaign not just aim to give or light up villages but hope to inspire each child to excel in their school and succeed in their lives.
